Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Gym Timer at 4.5 against Boxing Round Timer's 3.2. Gym Timer also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Gym Timer holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Gym Timer has 460 ratings behind it against 49, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of Boxing Round Timer's written reviews are positive against 55% of Gym Timer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Boxing Round Timer ships an update every 3 months, Gym Timer every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 23, 2026 and September 20, 2026 respectively.
