Crystal Synth XT is a full featured semi-modular synthesizer, ideally suited to creating lush evolving soundscapes. Crystal VST has long been a popular synthesizer on the desktop. Crystal Synth XT brings that same powerful synthesis engine to the iPad and iPhone. Crystal Synth XT features MIDI keyboard input via Apple's camera adapter and sharing of sounds with the desktop version of Crystal. == Features == Browse through the included sounds and use the 2 octave keypad or keyboard to trigger notes to produce evolving, rhythmic, or melodic sounds. Create your own sounds with a single button press using the breed feature. When using an iPad, you can delve into a tweaker's dream by using the extensive editing features to sculpt sounds to your heart's content (editing features are only available when used on an iPad). Crystal features both subtractive synthesis and frequency modulation (FM) synthesis. It offers abundant modulation control with over 90 parameters which may be modulated, multi-stage envelopes with graphical editors, extensive tempo sync of envelopes/lfo rates/delay times, built-in effects for chorus/flanging/comb filtering/echoes, and a band splitter for effects processing by frequency band. Not only that, Crystal has wave sequencing and granular synthesis. The musical applications for Crystal are literally boundless. == MIDI == With MIDI keyboard input, you can connect a MIDI keyboard to your iPad or iPhone and play Crystal Synth XT like a hardware synth. == Virtual MIDI == Use virtual midi to play Crystal Synth XT from a midi controller app. Use the Settings app to turn on the Background Audio mode to enable Crystal to play audio when in the background. You can then play Crystal from a midi controller app which supports virtual midi. == Sharing == With patch sharing you can create sounds on your iPad or iPhone while away from the studio, then transfer them to the desktop Crystal when you get back to the studio to use in recording projects. Or, create banks of sounds on the desktop Crystal, then transfer them to the iPad/iPhone Crystal to use in a live performance for a truly portable rig. Use Audio copy/paste to record your performance on Crystal and transfer that performance to another app. Or copy your recorded performance to your computer. == Inter App Audio and Audiobus == To use IAA or Audiobus to record into other apps, turn on Background Audio for Crystal Synth XT in the Settings app. See demonstration videos on the greenoak.com website. == Different Versions == If you don't need all the features of Crystal Synth XT, try the basic version of Crystal, also available in the app store from Green Oak Software. With the basic version you can browse sounds, play notes, and create new sounds, taking advantage of its powerful semimodular synthesis engine. The XT version adds features like MIDI keyboard input via the iPad's camera adapter, IAA/Audiobus, and patch sharing with the desktop version. Choose the app that is best for you! == Notes == Important note for iPhone users: Crystal Synth XT runs on both the iPad and the iPhone. Because of the limited screen space on the iPhone however, the editing pages, which contain the edit controls, are not available when running on that device. However, on the iPhone you can still browse sounds, play notes from the keypad, create new sounds with the Breed feature, modify patches with the Design feature, and share sounds with desktop Crystal VST. Your voice. A different character. MORF is an ivlt.io Gadget for exploring live voice and sound transformation on iPhone and iPad. Choose a sound, set your input level and shape the result with controls made for playing. Two Audio Unit (AUv3) plugins bring MORF into your host app. SHAPE YOUR SOUND Adjust pitch and blend your original input with the transformed sound. Open the shaping controls for tone, body, drive, space, movement and formant. Map real-time controls to a MIDI controller with MIDI learn. CHOOSE YOUR TRADE-OFF Choose from the processing modes available for each model. Faster response and greater detail make different demands on your device. Estimated delay ranges help you decide; actual latency also depends on the model, device and audio connection. Not every model supports every mode. USE MORF IN YOUR HOST APP MORF includes two AUv3 effects, with no separate purchase or download. ivlT: MORF is for live use: monitoring and playing through it with headphones. It runs the Fast engine, plays the sounds that have a Fast version and reports about 41 ms of latency to the host. ivlT: MORF Studio is for recorded tracks and exports. It runs Standard or High Quality and plays every sound in your library. It reports about 0.81 s (Standard) or 1.01 s (High Quality), so it is not for live monitoring. The host's delay compensation lines up the converted track on playback and in exports, and exports render offline. Both plugins use the sounds in your MORF library; add new sounds in the app and they appear in the plugins automatically. Pitch, Mix, Input, Gate, Output and the shaping dials are host parameters, so hosts can automate them. An input-keyed gate mutes the converted voice while your input is quiet; some sounds would otherwise turn room noise into artifacts. The plugins process audio on your device and make no network requests. Use one MORF Studio per host session; live MORF instances can run alongside. Latency figures are what the plugins report to the host at 48 kHz with 256-frame buffers, not microphone-to-speaker measurements. The plugins are tested on iPad in AUM and GarageBand; other hosts and iPhone are not yet tested. BUILD YOUR LIBRARY Start offline with Clara, Cello, Violin, Bird, Whale and Storm, included in the app. Preview optional sound packs before downloading. Import compatible models saved in Files. Download external models separately in your browser and transfer them to your device before importing. Supported imports include RVC v2 pitch-conditioned models at 32, 40 and 48 kHz; arbitrary AI models are not compatible. Create personal sounds from recordings on your device. Organise your library with drag and drop, and remove downloaded models when you no longer need them. PROCESS ON YOUR DEVICE Audio transformation runs locally. Microphone audio is not uploaded for cloud processing. Internet access is needed for the ivlt catalogue and downloads; installed sounds can be used offline. Optional downloads require additional storage. PLAY RESPONSIBLY Use recordings and voice models only with the permissions and licences you need. Do not impersonate others or mislead listeners. A model being publicly downloadable does not mean it is cleared for commercial use. For live monitoring, use headphones or a suitable audio interface to avoid feedback. Wired audio is recommended; Bluetooth adds delay. Sound quality varies with the source, model and processing mode. MORF is a creative sound tool, not a guarantee of an indistinguishable voice replica. Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: MORF at every 2 weeks against Crystal Synth XT's every 4 months. Crystal Synth XT's advantage is price ($4.99 vs $9.99) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 18.0). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
