Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: StudyPug at 4.7 against Word Problems's 2.8. StudyPug also leads on update cadence (every 8 days vs every 9 months) and ratings volume (2.1K vs 4). Word Problems's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 13) and ads (none vs shown). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. StudyPug sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Word Problems asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

StudyPug holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: StudyPug has 2.1K ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Word Problems's written reviews are positive against 59% of StudyPug's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Word Problems ships an update every 9 months, StudyPug every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
