Cardio Shock
This medical app calculates CPO and PAPi to help assess patient candidacy for mechanical support. It utilizes formulas based on research from The Detroit Shock Initiative to provide these critical medical calculations.
- CPO calculation
- PAPi calculation
- Mechanical support assessment
- Based on Detroit Shock Initiative findings
- BSA and Fick formulas

Calculate CPO and PAPi to assess if patient is a candidate for mechanical support. The "recommendations" are based on the findings of The Detroit Shock Initiative: Basir MB, Schreiber T, Dixon S, Alaswad K, Patel K, Almany S, Khandelwal A, Hanson I, George A, Ashbrook M, Blank N, Abdelsalam M, Sareen N, Timmis SBH, O'Neill Md WW. Feasibility of early mechanical circulatory support in acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock: The Detroit cardiogenic shock initiative. Catheter Cardiovasc Interv. 2018 Feb 15;91(3):454-461. doi: 10.1002/ccd.27427. Epub 2017 Dec 20. PubMed PMID: 29266676. Disclaimer: Please note that this app does not replace clinical judgement. I can not take responsibility for the outcomes of the use of this app. There is no single standard formula for the calculation of BSA or cardiac output. Many authors recommend reducing peak oxygen consumption to 110mL O2/min for patients over the age of 75. This app uses the standard 125mL O2/min for all patients. Formulas: BSA is calculated as square root (heigh*weight)/36 Fick calculated as 125xBSA/ ((SAO2-SVO2) * hgb * 13.4. Finally: I have no relevant financial conflicts of interests or financial gains from use of this app. I'm just another idealistic general cardiology fellow looking to make a difference. Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Cardio Shock at 100% against CathSource's 38%. Cardio Shock also leads on rating (5.0 vs 1.6) and monetization model (free vs paid). CathSource's advantage is ratings volume (23 vs 4). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
