Verdict
The clearest difference is price: DigiSlate at Free against HDSLR Slate's $7.99. DigiSlate also leads on rating (3.9 vs 3.0) and update cadence (monthly vs every 5 months). On review sentiment, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

DigiSlate is free to download; HDSLR Slate costs $7.99 up front. HDSLR Slate sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and DigiSlate sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
DigiSlate holds the better App Store score, 3.9 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: DigiSlate has 48 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 78% of HDSLR Slate's written reviews are positive against 74% of DigiSlate's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
HDSLR Slate ships an update every 5 months, DigiSlate monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 20, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
