Trusted for over 15 years by heart rhythm professionals worldwide, epTools is a collection of useful tools for the evaluation of heart rhythm disorders. It is available on iPhone and iPad devices. Resources include algorithms used to localize arrhythmia substrates and reference guides to assist in the identification and, management of cardiac rhythm disorders and tools to calculate commonly used measurements and risk scores. Peer-reviewed algorithms are implemented by tools via an intuitive user interface. References are provided. Tools guide the user or AI through a series of questions to arrive at an answer while providing a graphical visualization of their progress and result of their analysis. Use of the save path to image feature allows users to save an image of the current decision path when using many of the decision analysis tools included. These images, which appear in the photo album, may be useful to communicate findings with colleagues. Included tools: Preexcitation variant localization: Arruda, Milstein, Taguchi , D'Avila, Li, Pambrun, Baek and Crinion and O'Leary et al. Atrial tachycardias: Ellenbogen and Kistler et al (localization ) De Ponti et al tool (calculates the appropriate mapping window for isthmus identification) Miyazaki et al (localizes macro reentrant ATs based on pacing responses) Ischemic ventricular tachycardia localization: Miller, Segal and Andreu et al) Idiopathic ventricular tachycardia and premature ventricular contraction: Ito, Park and Enriquez et al (localization) ABC-VT Risk Score Differentiation of left vs right ventricular outflow tract sites: QRS-RVA Interval V₂S/V₃R Index TZ Index V₂ Transition ratio R/S-wave Amplitude, R-Wave Duration, R-wave amplitude, V₂QRSI40 and RV₁-₃ indices. Every inherited cardiomyopathy evaluation warrants meticulous, accurate, and evidence-based risk stratification. CardioGenetics compiles validated calculators, diagnostic frameworks, and a live clinical trial finder in your pocket. USED AT THE BEDSIDE Whether you are presenting at a multidisciplinary cardiomyopathy board, interpreting a new pathogenic variant, or seeing your first LMNA patient, CardioGenetics gives the same tools with the evidence and models behind every number. ASCVD RISK ALIGNED WITH THE 2026 GUIDELINES Calculate 10-year risk with AHA PREVENT (ages 30–79), compare against the legacy Pooled Cohort Equations, integrate coronary artery calcium via the MESA score, and interpret Lipoprotein(a) with a built-in risk multiplier. Every result maps directly to the 2026 ACC/AHA dyslipidemia guideline statin thresholds, risk-enhancing factors, and CAC decision pathways. GENE-SPECIFIC SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH RISK Not all cardiomyopathies carry the same arrhythmic risk. CardioGenetics includes dedicated calculators for HCM (ESC 2014 Risk-SCD), ARVC (Cadrin-Tourigny), LMNA (Wahbi, ESC 2023-adapted), PLN p.Arg14del (Verstraelen), DSP (ERADOS, Eur Heart J 2024), FLNC (Gigli, JAMA Cardiol 2025), and PKP2-specific guidance. Each cross-referenced to the latest ESC 2023 and AHA/ACC 2024 guidelines. DIAGNOSTIC FRAMEWORKS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Confirm diagnoses before you risk-stratify. Built-in criteria include the 2020 Padua Criteria for arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy, AHA/ACC 2024 and ESC 2023 HCM diagnostic standards, LVNC scoring (Jenni, Petersen, Stöllberger), and DCM phenotyping. FIND THE RIGHT CLINICAL TRIAL Browse actively enrolling studies for Lp(a), HCM, ACM/ARVC, DSP, LMNA, and PLN with interactive U.S. state and European enrollment maps. Every trial includes its NCT identifier and a direct link to ClinicalTrials.gov. DESIGNED FOR WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO IN CLINIC • Search any calculator, diagnosis, or trial from a single search bar • Tap a risk score and see the full mathematical model, original citation, and DOI • View sensitivity analyses and interactive risk curves • Share lay-language summaries during patient-facing discussions • Cross-navigate between diagnostic confirmation and risk stratification in one tap TRUST BUT VERIFY: Every calculator reproduces its published equation with full variable definitions and baseline coefficients. There are no "black boxes" here, no proprietary modifications. Tap any citation to access the original published manuscript. INTENDED USERS: Cardiologists · Electrophysiologists · Genetic Counselors · Cardiology Fellows and Residents · Medical Students · Advanced Practice Providers · Inherited Cardiovascular Disease Teams Developed by Mark E. Pepin, MD, PhD, FESC. All risk models are derived from peer-reviewed literature and their original sources. Verdict
The clearest difference is price: CardioGenetics at $2.99 against epTools's $19.99. CardioGenetics also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and review sentiment (100% vs 88%). epTools's advantage is ratings volume (519 vs 4) and chart position (#181 vs unranked). On update cadence, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

epTools costs $19.99 and CardioGenetics $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
CardioGenetics holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: epTools has 519 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 88% of epTools's written reviews are positive against 100% of CardioGenetics's.
epTools ships an update every 4 months, CardioGenetics every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
