Having been continuously inhabited for at least 3,000 years, Athens busts with energy and waits to be explored. Wander through the picturesque courtyards and lanes of Plaka, visit the oriental bazaars and food markets of Monastiraki, or enjoy a frappe and a spoon sweet in the wonderful patisseries and kafeneia. PocketGuide, the world’s leading audio city guide application, reveals the best stories, insider hangouts and must-see sights in more than 100 major cities and tourist destinations. PocketGuide turns your mobile device into a personal tour guide: The GPS figures out where you are, and a voice recording, made by a local guide, describes the sights around you. You don’t need to read text from your phone, just listen and enjoy a city’s attractions while your virtual tour guide explains it all and shares personal insights. PocketGuide works offline, so you save on roaming charges, and it includes an offline map and loads of critical reviews that help you decide where to eat, drink and shop. We also have fascinating themed tours, for those who want to go off the beaten path. Find the top tapas in Barcelona, get chic in NYC’s East Village or follow the trail of a 19th century serial killer in London. Whether you're interested in the main sights or "the road less traveled", PocketGuide is ready to take you there. Please note that continuous use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: OASA at 2.7 against Athens.'s 2.0. OASA also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 6) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months). Athens.'s advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 14%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 17.5). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Athens. sells 6 one-off in-app purchases. OASA asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

OASA holds the better App Store score, 2.7 against 2.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1 and 3 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Athens.'s written reviews are positive against 14% of OASA's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Athens. ships an update every 2 months, OASA every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
