Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: U at 4.0 against Piazza's 2.1. U also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). Piazza's advantage is update cadence (every 11 days vs every 45 months) and ratings volume (279 vs 12). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
U holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 2.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Piazza has 279 ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 14% of Piazza's written reviews are positive against 0% of U's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Piazza ships an update every 11 days, U every 45 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
