Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: GPGuide at 4.3 against Formula Nova's 3.4. GPGuide also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 months). Formula Nova's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Formula Nova sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and GPGuide sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

GPGuide holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 21 and 42 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Formula Nova's written reviews are positive against 65% of GPGuide's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Formula Nova ships an update every 5 months, GPGuide every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 11, 2026 and September 26, 2026 respectively.
