Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: MathTerms at none against Pre's 1. MathTerms also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 67%) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Pre's advantage is ratings volume (357 vs 7) and update cadence (every 6 months vs every 23 months). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Pre sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per month. MathTerms asks for nothing beyond the download.
MathTerms holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pre has 357 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 67% of Pre's written reviews are positive against 100% of MathTerms's.
Pre ships an update every 6 months, MathTerms every 23 months. The most recent releases landed on September 8, 2026 and July 2, 2026 respectively.
