Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Prompter at 3.5 against MovieReading's 2.4. Prompter also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.6). MovieReading's advantage is review sentiment (35% vs 0%) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Prompter holds the better App Store score, 3.5 against 2.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MovieReading has 12 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 35% of MovieReading's written reviews are positive against 0% of Prompter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
MovieReading ships an update fortnightly, Prompter every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
