Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Flinguin at none against aa's 5. Flinguin also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (67% vs 56%). aa's advantage is update cadence (every 10 days vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (11K vs 24). On price, rating, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. aa sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Flinguin asks for nothing beyond the download.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 3.8 for Flinguin against 3.8 for aa. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: aa has 11K ratings behind it against 24, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 67% of Flinguin's written reviews are positive against 56% of aa's.
Flinguin ships an update every 5 months, aa every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on June 2, 2026 and September 27, 2026 respectively.
