Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: 央视新闻 at none against 新华社's 19. 央视新闻 also leads on rating (4.0 vs 3.8) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). 新华社's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (67% vs 41%). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. 新华社 sells 19 one-off in-app purchases. 央视新闻 asks for nothing beyond the download.
央视新闻 holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 29 and 25 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 41% of 央视新闻's written reviews are positive against 67% of 新华社's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
央视新闻 ships an update every 2 months, 新华社 every 5 weeks. Both last shipped on November 1, 2026.
