Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: CouponScan at 4.4 against Extreme Couponing's 3.1. CouponScan also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (6.0 vs 18.5). Extreme Couponing's advantage is update cadence (every 6 months vs every 24 months). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Extreme Couponing sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and CouponScan sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
CouponScan holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 3.1. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 32 and 69 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of Extreme Couponing's written reviews are positive against 59% of CouponScan's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Extreme Couponing ships an update every 6 months, CouponScan every 24 months. Both last shipped on October 23, 2026.
