Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Solstice at 85% against Air Matters's 50%. Solstice also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.8 vs 4.6). Air Matters's advantage is ratings volume (2.5K vs 80) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.5). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Air Matters sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per year and Solstice sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Solstice holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Air Matters has 2.5K ratings behind it against 80, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 50% of Air Matters's written reviews are positive against 85% of Solstice's.
Air Matters ships an update monthly, Solstice every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
