Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Piano Diary at 2.5 against 700 ESPN's 1.8. Piano Diary also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). 700 ESPN's advantage is update cadence (every 4 months vs every 12 months) and review sentiment (33% vs 23%). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Piano Diary holds the better App Store score, 2.5 against 1.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Piano Diary has 24 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 23% of Piano Diary's written reviews are positive against 33% of 700 ESPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Piano Diary ships an update every 12 months, 700 ESPN every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
