Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: CloseTheBox at 4.7 against Block the Pig's 3.9. CloseTheBox also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). Both are free to download. Block the Pig sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. CloseTheBox asks for nothing beyond the download.
CloseTheBox holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: CloseTheBox has 3.7K ratings behind it against 50, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 56% of CloseTheBox's written reviews are positive against 75% of Block the Pig's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
CloseTheBox ships an update every 8 months, Block the Pig every 13 months. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
