***** (5/5) "Word Wow is an explosion of thought-provoking, perplexing, and thrilling fun for almost all ages." - AppAdvice Word Wow is a word game where you make words to dig deeper into the ground. As you dig down, the worm will follow until you can guide him to the bottom before time runs out. You need to be able to make words quickly (although a no-timer mode is available) to string together bonuses, as well as just to clear the path. If you find the worm to be stuck and you can't come up with any words, you can use a bomb to clear some of the tiles. You have a limited number of bombs, but you can earn more as you make more words. As the worm moves down the board, more letters become available. Each level has at least 1 hidden gem, and if you can find all the gems in all the levels of a world, a bonus level is opened where you can really rack up the points! The bigger the words that you can make the more points you'll earn. Try and make enough points each level to earn all three stars. Word Wow will sharpen your brain as well as your reflexes. Help a worm out! Features: * Fast action with the timer or relaxed mode without it * More than 2100+ Levels and 64 colorful worlds * Bonus level for each world when you collect all the gems * Lots of replay value as you see your ranking against all other players globally

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: Missing Link at none against Word Wow's shown. Missing Link also leads on review sentiment (92% vs 71%) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 13.0). Word Wow's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 75 months) and ratings volume (13K vs 345). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Missing Link sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and Word Wow sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Word Wow holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Word Wow has 13K ratings behind it against 345, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 92% of Missing Link's written reviews are positive against 71% of Word Wow's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Missing Link ships an update every 75 months, Word Wow monthly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 7, 2026 respectively.
