Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Trane® Technician at 4.8 against TMS Flat Rate Reader's 4.0. Trane® Technician also leads on ratings volume (220 vs 3) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 3 months). TMS Flat Rate Reader's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 25%) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 15.1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Trane® Technician holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Trane® Technician has 220 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of TMS Flat Rate Reader's written reviews are positive against 25% of Trane® Technician's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

TMS Flat Rate Reader ships an update every 3 months, Trane® Technician every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
