Echo is an AI driven real-time in-ear voice translator designed specifically for use with AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones. Other speech translation apps aren’t intelligent enough to know when sentences have started and stopped so they must be told when to start listening and when to stop listening and you don’t get the translation until after. That only works when the conversation you want to translate is planned; when both participants purposely take turns talking. But what about unplanned speech, such as speech overheard in airport announcements, casual conversations at work, in elevators, or coffee shops? There is no need to tell Echo when a person is speaking. It simply starts listening and translating when prompted and continues until stopped. Some in-ear translation solutions require proprietary headphones, but with Echo, there’s no need to spend extra money on hardware. Use your own headphones and let the app do the work. Even better: Echo doesn’t require an internet connection for voice recognition and translation. All processing is done on-device, preventing unwanted bills while abroad. Support for 14 languages and 19 accents. Including: English Spanish German French Italian Dutch Japanese Chinese Korean Portuguese Arabic Russian Thai Turkish Echo excels at recognizing and translating voices heard in short form speech scenarios, such as brief conversations spoken nearby, airport announcements, coffee shops, grocery stores, in elevators and others. We are currently working to improve long form recognition and translations, such as in lectures, videos and fast paced conversations. Echo still works in these long form speech scenarios but improvements are coming soon. Most popular translation pairs in the US: Spanish to English German to English French to English Italian to English Dutch to English Japanese to English Chinese to English Korean to English Portuguese to English Arabic to English Russian to English Thai to English Turkish to English Performance is dependent on iPhone hardware. Generally, a newer iPhone will perform better than an older one. Terms of use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: FutureFolio Viewer at 5.0 against Echo's 4.4. FutureFolio Viewer also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 4) and device support (3 vs 1). Echo's advantage is update cadence (every 11 days vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (81 vs 1). On price and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Echo sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per month. FutureFolio Viewer asks for nothing beyond the download.
FutureFolio Viewer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Echo has 81 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of FutureFolio Viewer's written reviews are positive against 24% of Echo's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
FutureFolio Viewer ships an update every 2 months, Echo every 11 days. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
