Verdict

The call

TopoTablet and Planetaria both sit at 4.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of TopoTablet's written reviews are positive against 50% of Planetaria's. TopoTablet also leads on price (Free vs $4.99) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 16.4). Planetaria's advantage is ratings volume (16 vs 2) and device support (3 vs 1). On rating, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Planetaria holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Planetaria has 16 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of TopoTablet's written reviews are positive against 50% of Planetaria's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

TopoTablet ships an update every 4 months, Planetaria every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
