"Fantastic app and believe me - I've tried them all. The ghost-ride function is among the best and the app has some real killer features that stands out especially if you often take the same routes. On some routes you may choose automated start/stop on passing GPS points. It also predicts your route based on previous patterns and the time of day and week. Makes regular use very easy. Use it and you'll never regret it." — pss-peter / App Store Review “Using this app makes me more competitive because it compares your exercise with previous exercises so it makes me work harder. The announcements make me feel like I have a personal trainer! This is a brilliant app.” — jenbee6 / App Store Review ** Bit of Exercise is free to download and evaluate. The demo mode limit the number of activities that can be recorded. The unlimited version is unlocked using an in-app purchase. ** Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is ads: Bit of Exercise at none against Running App's shown. Bit of Exercise also leads on review sentiment (83% vs 62%) and update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). Running App's advantage is ratings volume (1.1K vs 3) and rating (4.9 vs 4.7). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Running App holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Running App has 1.1K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 83% of Bit of Exercise's written reviews are positive against 62% of Running App's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Bit of Exercise ships an update monthly, Running App every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
