With Geometry Pad you can create fundamental geometric shapes, explore and change their properties, and calculate metrics. The shapes are displayed on a scrollable and zoomable workbook with a rectangular coordinate system. The following tools are built into the application: - Point, angle, line, ray, segment, perpendicular bisector, tangent, triangle, quadrilateral, polygon, regular polygon, arc, sector, circle, ellipse, parabola, hyperbola. - Tools to create medians, altitudes and bisectors in a triangle. - Tools to create special triangles and quadrilaterals: right, isosceles, equilateral, square, rectangle, parallelogram and rhombus. - Two additional ways to create an ellipse: by center, end of a major axis, and a point on the ellipse; by focus points, and a point on the ellipse. - Compass tool to plot arcs with an easily adjustable center and radius. - Pencil tool to draw freehand annotations. - Text annotations and labels with mixed-in metrics such as length, angle, perimeter, equation, etc. - Transformation tools: rotation, reflection, enlargement, translation. - Create lines and triangles with predefined parameters such as equation of a line, and angles or sides of a triangle. - Insert images into the document. Each shape has a set of customizable properties such as color, width, background, etc. Shape metrics are automatically calculated and presented along with shape properties. Some of them are editable such as point location, line length, circe radius, etc. Snapping is deeply integrated into the application. Snap-to-grid and snap-to-objects allow for precise constructions. Additionally, lines can snap to parallel, perpendicular and tangent lines. Snapping can be easily turned on/off in the quick snapping settings window. Documents can be saved to your device, iCloud or to Dropbox. Export formats include PDF and image. Additionally, PDF documents can be opened within the app, annotated using any of the built in tools and exported as PDF again. Your suggestions are welcomed and appreciated. About

GeoFieldBook

This app digitizes geological field mapping, replacing paper notebooks. It uses the iPad's GPS and camera to log structural and formation data, link images, and display real-time maps with oriented strikes and dips. Data can be exported for analysis.

Highlights
  • Digital field notebook
  • GPS-enabled data logging
  • Image linking to records
  • Real-time map display
  • Export data in CSV format
  • Import existing datasets
Features

GeoFieldBook is designed for use in structural geology field mapping projects as a complement or replacement for the traditional paper field notebook and maps. The App integrates the iPad's GPS, camera, data management and mapping capabilities to allow geologists to record structural and formation information, automatically log geo-located data, link images to each record and input pre-defined formation names for different mapping areas. The records are then displayed in real-time on an image base (Apple) with strikes and dips displayed in the correct orientation and color-coded to the formation list. Field measurements and notes can be exported in csv format for integration into analysis software. Existing data sets (records and formation lists) can also be imported into the App. Record types currently supported (more are coming): - Bedding - Contacts - Faults - Joints - Other (generic entries) - Up to five additional user-defined record types with five additional fields per record. Depending upon the record type selected, inputs include: - Name (your entry) - Location (auto recorded) - Time/date (auto recorded) - Dip amount and direction (from your measurements) - Formations (scroll wheel entry) - Notes (your entry) - Five additional user-defined input fields

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Geometry Pad at 48% against GeoFieldBook's 0%. Geometry Pad also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 14 months) and ratings volume (5 vs 1). GeoFieldBook's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 2.6) and in-app purchases (none vs 1). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Geometry Pad sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. GeoFieldBook asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

GeoFieldBook holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 2.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Geometry Pad has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of Geometry Pad's written reviews are positive against 0% of GeoFieldBook's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Geometry Pad ships an update every 2 months, GeoFieldBook every 14 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and September 28, 2026 respectively.
