The app uses photon accumulation in low-light conditions, so the number of frames per second may be quite low. This behavior is not lag or a bug, but a necessary process that works around the physical limits of a standard smartphone camera. The final image quality also depends heavily on your specific smartphone model and the amount of available ambient light. For the app to work correctly, it needs at least a minimal light source, such as a starry sky or moonlight outdoors. In complete darkness, such as an enclosed room without windows, the app will not be able to create an image. Conversely, in daylight or bright light, the screen will turn completely white because the sensor is oversaturated.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Speedometer» holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speedometer» has 51K ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of Speedometer»'s written reviews are positive against 100% of Pro Night's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Speedometer» ships an update every 13 months, Pro Night every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
