Brandrisk Ute (Fire Danger Outdoors) is an app from the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency aimed at private individuals. The app helps you be aware of the fire danger in forests and on open ground in Sweden, and is particularly useful during the spring and summer. It provides information and advice to help you reduce your risk of causing a grass or forest fire, for example if you intend to light a fire or have a barbecue. Using the GPS function on your iPhone or iPad device, the app presents the current fire danger forecast for your location. You can also search for the fire danger in other locations and save locations as Favourites. You can view different types of forecasts in the map such as the forest fire danger, fuel dryness forest and grass fire danger. The fire danger forecast is updated every hour. You can view the danger class for every hour over the next 48 hours, as well as a fire danger value for the following five days. Fire danger data is gathered from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI). There may be a local fire ban in force at your location. So check fire ban status in the app before you light a fire. Brandrisk Ute also contains videos, FAQs and information about safer ways to light a fire in forests and on open ground. The app has been developed for iOS. You can also find the fire danger forecasts at mcf.se. Fire danger varies from place to place, and the weather can change quickly. Pay extra attention to the wind and never light a fire or barbecue when there are strong winds. Many other activities can also cause a fire, such as driving off-road vehicles or using a chainsaw.

Thermal climate stress affects health and productivity for millions of European workers. Sudden changes in the thermal environment (heat waves or cold spells) are also major health challenges for the elderly and other vulnerable populations, increasing mortality and morbidity. The consequences of thermal stress are dependent not only on climate factors, but also on individual human physiology and thermoregulation capacity. For warning and preparation purposes, climate services can provide information on current and upcoming environmental conditions, but such weather forecasts will be much more valuable for individuals facing adverse weather conditions if combined with individual characteristics and translated into optimized adaptation strategies that can be provided and implemented immediately. It is possible, but not necessary, to personalize the app with information (height, weight, age, gender) for more accurate prediction of thermal climate stress. Within the next year the app will regularly be updated with new thermal models along with optimization of the current content.
