The U.S. Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use comprises recommendations for the use of specific contraceptive methods by patients who have certain characteristics or medical conditions. The U.S. Selected Practice Recommendations for Contraceptive Use addresses a select group of common, yet sometimes controversial or complex, issues regarding initiation and use of specific contraceptive methods. The app is developed directly from the CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) by the Division of Reproductive Health and covers more than 60 characteristics or medical conditions (U.S. MEC) and numerous clinical situations (U.S. SPR). These recommendations are intended to assist healthcare providers when they counsel women, men, and couples about contraceptive method choice and use. Although these recommendations are meant to serve as a source or clinical guidance, healthcare providers should always consider the individual clinical circumstances of each person seeking family planning services.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Reprotox at 5.0 against Contraception's 4.3. Reprotox also leads on update cadence (every 3 months vs every 7 months) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.0). Contraception's advantage is review sentiment (64% vs 40%) and ratings volume (27 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Reprotox holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Contraception has 27 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 40% of Reprotox's written reviews are positive against 64% of Contraception's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Reprotox ships an update every 3 months, Contraception every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on June 5, 2026 and September 20, 2026 respectively.
