Introducing Atomic Tiles: an Exploration of Atoms and Molecules, designed by Dr. Seth Bush, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Cal Poly University, specializing in Chemical Education and developed by Dr. Fred Ventura, Ventura Educational Systems. Atoms are nature's building blocks. Everything is made of atoms. Atomic Tiles is an active learning tool where students explore how atoms come together to form molecules. Using Atomic Tiles students begin to understand the structure of atoms. Students learn that an atom has a dense inner core called the nucleus that contains protons and neutrons. The outer layer of an atom contains the electrons called the electron cloud. Most chemical properties properties of atoms, including how atoms bond to one another, are the result of the outermost electrons in the 'electron cloud' known as valence electrons. Atomic Tiles depicts valence electrons as open or closed circles, similar to Lewis Dots. Open circles are electrons that can be shared to form bonds. Closed circles are electrons that are not shared. Interactive Simulations That Make MCAT Chemistry Stick. Stop Memorizing. Start Visualizing. The MCAT doesn’t test plug-and-chug. It tests reasoning. Our chemistry sims help you: • Build intuitive understanding you can apply across passages • Master cause-and-effect thinking (Le Châtelier, kinetics shifts, pH changes) • Visualize reactions dynamically, not just as static equations • Easy, medium and hard practice questions • Strengthen memory through interactive experimentation, not passive reading • Reduce study time by replacing hours of memorization with minutes of simulation Perfect for MCAT prep sections involving: • General Chemistry • Biochemistry foundations • Acid–base chemistry • Reaction energetics • Kinetics & equilibria in biological systems • Passage-based data interpretation This app is designed by a cognitive science team and chemical engineers specialized in science education. It uses a learning framework designed to be 700% better at teaching STEM than current simulations and animated modules for STEM learning, backed by cognitive research from Columbia University! It’s currently focused on the core units of Kinetics, Equilibrium , Acids Bases and Stoichiometry, with more units to come! KEY FEATURES: * Interactive Simulations * Tap, drag or shake to navigate through simulations and activities related to the rate of reactions, equilibrium, acids, bases, and more! * Beautiful Visuals * Awesome visuals that make your learning experience much more interesting. Preparing for your AP has never been easier. * Equations and Graphs * Difficult graphs and equations are visualized seamlessly with a beautiful beaker animation. * Different Reactions * Repeat the experiments as many times as you want and with different reactions to better understand how some things might change depending on the reaction. * Quizzes (+250 questions) * Get very detailed and thorough explanations for each possible answer. Choose the difficulty that better fits you and test your knowledge. * Guided Experience * Beaky the beaker will guide you through the simulation and explain key concepts and equations as you go along. Seamlessly navigate between units and different activities, all within the same app. For Students In: • MCAT Prep • General Chemistry I & II • Introductory Bio & Biochemistry • Pre-med & Pre-health pathways

Verdict
The clearest difference is price: MCAT Chemistry Simulations at Free against AtomicTiles's $3.99. MCAT Chemistry Simulations also leads on update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 19 months) and ratings volume (9 vs 1). AtomicTiles's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10). On rating, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
