Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Hypertron at 4.4 against Video Scratch's 4.0. Hypertron also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (159 vs 11). Video Scratch's advantage is review sentiment (67% vs 53%) and iOS requirement (5.1.1 vs 15.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Video Scratch sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Hypertron sells 14 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Hypertron holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hypertron has 159 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Video Scratch's written reviews are positive against 53% of Hypertron's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Video Scratch ships an update every 4 months, Hypertron monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 28, 2026 respectively.
