Both are free to download. Gomoku∙5 sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and ChessBot sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Gomoku∙5 holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Gomoku∙5 has 641 ratings behind it against 33, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of Gomoku∙5's written reviews are positive against 67% of ChessBot's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Gomoku∙5 ships an update every 3 months, ChessBot every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
