Info: A clock chime is a melody that plays at set intervals, usually on the hour, to signify the passing of time. These chimes are commonly heard from grandfather clocks, carillons, or bell towers, and different melodies are often tied to specific locations or towers. A striking clock, also called a chiming clock, audibly strikes the hours on a bell or gong. In the typical 12-hour striking system, the clock strikes once at 1:00 AM, twice at 2:00 AM, and continues up to twelve times at 12:00 PM. It then repeats the process from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Note: Ensure notifications are enabled for the chimes to work properly. Notification sound will be disabled if the phone is in Low Power Mode, Do Not Disturb mode, or Sleep mode. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Chime Clock at 2.6 against Westminster ChimeX's 1.5. Chime Clock also leads on ratings volume (10 vs 2) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.0). Westminster ChimeX's advantage is update cadence (every 6 months vs every 34 months) and chart position (#198 vs unranked). On ads, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Westminster ChimeX costs $0.99 and Chime Clock $2.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Chime Clock holds the better App Store score, 2.6 against 1.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chime Clock has 10 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 17% of Westminster ChimeX's written reviews are positive against 8% of Chime Clock's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Westminster ChimeX ships an update every 6 months, Chime Clock every 34 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
