Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Laboratory Timer at 92% against Clock mini's 49%. Laboratory Timer also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 18) and ratings volume (47 vs 4). Clock mini's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Clock mini sells 18 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month. Laboratory Timer asks for nothing beyond the download.
Clock mini holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Laboratory Timer has 47 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 92% of Laboratory Timer's written reviews are positive against 49% of Clock mini's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Laboratory Timer ships an update every 3 months, Clock mini every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
