Communicado vs Speakaboo

Communicado helps people with aphasia to communicate with other people. Communicado starts where words fail to come. It is an app for interactive communication, using a free format with pictures, text and sound. The user can point at categorized pictures or words. The categories and the pictures or words can quickly be added inside the app by an editor, e.g. a close relative, a friend, or a therapist. Therapists can create personalized content for multiple users.

Speakaboo is an articulation screener designed to help SLP's assess speech development of a multilingual child in its native language. Using small interactive games, Speakaboo helps therapists elicit target words which are automatically recorded. The therapist can access these recordings after the test to review them, score the results, and compare them to the pronunciation of a native speaker. In the face of a language barrier, showing the child's parents a comparison of the two recordings makes it easier to explain a diagnosis. The SLT can also use the app to play the recorded audio of their child back. This often results in a better understanding of the diagnosis by parents.  The test takes only 10 minutes. The short duration makes Speakaboo ideal for working with young children who become restless during long evaluations.
