Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Ballistics at 4.5 against RangeCamera's 2.0. Ballistics also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 41 months) and ratings volume (60 vs 4). RangeCamera's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 15) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 14.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ballistics sells 15 one-off in-app purchases. RangeCamera asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Ballistics holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ballistics has 60 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of RangeCamera's written reviews are positive against 45% of Ballistics's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

RangeCamera ships an update every 41 months, Ballistics every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 4, 2026 and September 17, 2026 respectively.
