Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Metro Alert at Free against AED's $0.99. Metro Alert also leads on review sentiment (67% vs 33%) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 16.2). AED's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 3.0) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). On ratings volume, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Metro Alert is free to download; AED costs $0.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
AED holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 2 and 1 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Metro Alert's written reviews are positive against 33% of AED's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Metro Alert ships an update every 2 months, AED every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
