Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Quick block notes at 5.0 against Chalkboard for iPad's 4.5. Quick block notes also leads on update cadence (every 8 months vs every 18 months) and device support (3 vs 1). Chalkboard for iPad's advantage is review sentiment (49% vs 22%) and ratings volume (155 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chalkboard for iPad sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Quick block notes sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Quick block notes holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chalkboard for iPad has 155 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 49% of Chalkboard for iPad's written reviews are positive against 22% of Quick block notes's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Chalkboard for iPad ships an update every 18 months, Quick block notes every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
