Math Slide: tens & ones is a multiplayer game helping children understand numbers up to 100: 'tens' and 'ones'. Players play and learn by sliding tiles into the center to match an image, answer or equation. There are two modes or ways to play this game. Competition Mode is where the player who slides their tiles into the middle first wins, or Collaboration Mode where all players slide their tiles into the middle at the same time, working together and winning together. Understanding tens and ones is a key math concept critical in a child’s development. Progressing from counting to using number facts and place value is difficult for many children. This app is specifically designed to help children make this critical progression, helping them ‘see’ and understand that 23 is 2 ‘tens’ and 3 ‘ones’ and that one more than 79 is 8 groups of ten. Features • Multiplayer game, suitable for one, two, three or four players • Games can be played in Competition Mode or Collaboration Mode • 10 games all focused on the same key math concept • All games can be played twice for free • Game 1 and Game 8 can be played unlimited times • Each game is a little harder than the previous game • The app focuses on a critical math concept vital for success To work out if this app is at the right level of challenge try Game 1 and Game 8. If Game 1 is too hard or Game 8 is too easy this app is not at the right level. The free version of this app allows each game to be played twice. Are you brave enough to master the Mathsterious Mansion? Mathsterious Mansion is an engaging new mathematical game from 3P Learning, the team behind the world’s favourite online educational maths resource, Mathletics. Designed for Primary/Elementary aged students (7-11), Mathsterious Mansion teaches addition and subtraction and place value understanding within 1 – 100. It’s perfect for self-directed learning, home schooling and as a game-based learning activity for the classroom. The Mathsterious Mansion holds many secrets and is inhabited by a fascinating cast of characters. Your mission is to collect all of the characters by mastering 5 levels, each with 3 phases of increasing mathematical difficulty, by answering addition or subtraction algorithms using the hundred grid… if you dare! iPAD FEATURES: I. A slick and exciting student interface (custom designed for the iPad). II. Five challenging levels of difficulty to unlock… children will want to play over and over again. III. Two game modes: Story Mode Arcade Mode IV. A Reward Game, where the lost character can be found. V. 15 collectible characters who ‘live’ in the mansion, each with a hilarious history to discover! VI. A full tutorial for each level. VIITrace, tap and swipe functionalities that develop conceptual understandings of place value, the commutative property of addiction and the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. … and much, much more! WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE MATHEMATICS? Level 1 Add / subtract a 1-digit number to or from a 1 or 2-digit number within a decade: e.g. 42+ 6 or 65 – 3. Counting on or back is a good strategy at this level. Level 2 Add / subtract a 1-digit number to or from a 1 or 2-digit number across decades: e.g. 45+ 6, 65 – 8 or 9+5. Practise your bridge to 10 strategy here. Level 3 Add / subtract a multiple of ten to or from a 2-digit number: e.g. 45 + 30, 20 + 64 or 65 – 20. Practise counting on and back by tens. You can also turn the addition problems around to find the easier addition. Level 4 Add / subtract a 2-digit number to or from a 2-digit number: e.g. 43 + 51 or78 – 34. Partitioning numbers is a helpful strategy at this level. Level 5 Find missing addend, subtrahend or operation e.g. 42 + ×= 50, 50 – × = 34, or 50 ×15 = 35. Use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to find the easiest problem for you to solve! Each level has 3 phases. The first phase develops understanding of the processes – take the time you need to explore the hundred grid and notice helpful number patterns. The time restrictions in the second phase encourage you to make those facts automatic while the missing numbers on the grid in the third phase develop your understanding of place value.
