You don't shoot the asteroids. You touch them. Tilt your device and your little ship drifts — really drifts, with the weight and momentum of the arcade original. Then you reach into the swarm with a finger and rocks burst under your touch. It is a strange and lovely feeling, and it gets its hooks in fast. Lean away from a rock closing on your left. Pop it. Pop the two pieces it becomes. Keep the chain alive and your multiplier climbs; miss and it's gone. Somewhere out in the dark a saucer notices you and starts making its way over. Push far enough and the sky fills up: splinters everywhere, a saucer's shots crossing the field, your ship sliding through a gap you're not sure was there. That's the good part. Game Center leaderboards and a pile of achievements, including one you're not going to find by accident. Built for iPhone and iPad, edge to edge, with the moody hum of deep space behind it.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Atom Shell at none against Disasteroids's 1. Atom Shell also leads on update cadence (every 6 months vs every 52 months) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 17.6). Disasteroids's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.5) and ratings volume (30 vs 2). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Disasteroids sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Atom Shell asks for nothing beyond the download.
Disasteroids holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Disasteroids has 30 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
Disasteroids ships an update every 52 months, Atom Shell every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on August 23, 2026 and September 12, 2026 respectively.
