- On the edge of my seat the entire time
- Amazing amazing amazing story
- This is my ideal game
- Thrilling storyline
- Variety of puzzles
- Different mediums
- Computer, phones, character interaction, psychic abilities etc etc
- So much effort has gone into this series and it shows
- I only wish there were more of this high quality out there
- The story is very exciting
- The puzzles are fun and medium difficulty
- The voice acting is in English (very good speakers)
- The text is in German
- The story took me with it (positive)
- Now I'm buying the next 4 parts
- Because I'm very excited about how it continues
- Have had to follow walkthroughs
- As this game goes round and round in circles
- Have to go back and redo things
- Unable to finish game
- As Le Pendu statue is assembled but the game won’t progress
- Taken steps as suggested in forums but to no avail
- Not happy
- Too bad the realization is not more fluid (heaviness, illogical sequences of actions)
- For the love of god, don’t put the antique together until you have all the pieces
- I’ve got a glitch I now cannot finish the game because of
- At least not without going back nearly to the start
- Also the motions are clunky
- And you can’t skip through the dialogue
- Because even if the subtitles go, the characters go through all the animations
- Really disappointing
- The other review is correct
- I cannot get the tape player, which is clearly a bug
- Do not buy this game until the developers address this issue
- Very good point and click adventure
- Purchase recommendation
- Loving that this has been released on IOS
- More point and click adventure games please
- This game is not playable
- The controls buggy
- And the story very lame
- A waste of good money
- Don't waste your money
- Would like to give more stars (good storyline so far)
- But game design/mechanics are poor
- Spent hours trying to figure out why tape recorder quest is not activating
- Terrence won't help and can't call Morgue due to needing Terrence's help
- Combed walkthroughs, presented items to all characters over and over and it is just stuck
- No matter how much or how little $ paid, game should work
- And no, Phoenix, I don't want to create an account, just to see if your site might help me
- I'm done
- I'm ready to go to the dentist at this point
- Somewhere and sometime it may live up to its better reviews but I will never know
- I won't be playing it
- It is not a user-friendly game
- It does not re-orient on IPad Air 2
- And the print on the dialogue at the bottom of the screen is so incredibly small
- That by the time you find and read it, you have moved on to another screen
- I'm really sorry I bought it
- Looks to be a really cool game
- But the speech text is so small it's nearly impossible to read
- I've contacted devs multiple times, but never get a response
- Looks nice but repetitive
- Bland music
- And horrendously slow and monotonous mechanics
- And terribly bad dialogue
- And chronic voice acting ruin what could be a very nice game
- Like pulling teeth waiting for characters to move around and talk
- I don't have that kind of time or patience
- Let the user skip cutscenes and the forced mechanical walking from A to B at least
- I really enjoyed the new Gabriel Knight
- So had good hopes for Cognition
- I played the lite version first and was happy enough to pay for the full version - so disappointed
- It is very slow
- And the subtitles don't work properly
- I have a small child and the only time I get to myself to relax is when he is asleep so I can't use audio
- I am straining my eyes trying to see the tiny print
- What happened to the comic book font from the lite version
- I've played them all; all the Monkey Islands, all Police, Space, and Kings quests, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Quest for Glory
- BUT... This game... Is the best game I've ever played
- From the story, to the characters, to the acting
- It actually doesn't sound like their lines are being read from a script
- They bring true emotions to life
- It's incredible
- I... Can't even get over how good this game is
- I've been stuck playing lame games, by large companies, ( one horrid company in particular ) that just pump out their version of "adventure" games, today, that's just crap crap crap
- I'm so tired of "Hidden object adventure"s
- Phoenix Online Studios.... Thank you
- For opening up a company that understands what quality truly is
- It's been too long since a company, such and yourselves, has been shared with the public
- Side note: couldn't get game to work on my ipad 2
- But it works perfectly on iPad Air
- When do we get episodes 3 and 4
- Soon, I hope
- Thanks again
- I found the game great and have just bought episode 2
- The beginning (even the light version) initially put me off, as it was too much like horror, but that then subsides and it is a really great entertaining point and click adventure game
- Strange that not more people are playing it
- Hope for the other parts too
- This is a REALLY GREAT game
- I've played a lot of them and this is top 5 easy
- Need a walkthrough tip every once in a while during the cognition feature
- But long play time, good story, and great value for the price
- I really loved the story
- This game keeps you riveted till the very end
- I've never experienced much in the way of crashes
- There's mystery, in-game puzzles and interesting characters to make up a great adventure game
- The only thing I'm sad about is that the third and fourth games haven't been released on the ipad yet
- Nice story
- Episode long enough for the price
- A lot of bugz wth Erica's physics
- A few bugz wth quests
- Sometimes slowmo and crashes (iPad mini 1st gen)
- Advance English level required
- Different quest solutions
- Nice soundtrack
- IMHO it should to be in 2D
- Clever and very elaborate adventure with high suspense
- Great voice work, especially Erica Reed
- Appropriate music, fine graphics
- Now I'm looking forward to the 2nd part and hope that the remaining ones will also find their way into the App Store
- Thanks for the good work, keep it up
- Really great point and click game
- The plot is made like a very good crime novel, which is framed by super graphics
- I can only absolutely recommend it to everyone
- First time I ran it, it loaded, I watched the intro, did a couple things and it crashed
- Since then, it never goes past the main screen without crashing
- I would try the demo first to make sure it works first
- Great story line
- A bit frustrating to work out how to use everything
- Sadly didn't last very long for the money
- Normally have up to 16hrs of play for the same cost, hence the low rating
- Totally immersive game
- I can only assume the people who have rated it negatively have a very short attention span
- It has a very involving and original storyline
- And one which definitely benefits from good dialogue to build atmosphere
- It reminded me of the days when Tim Curry took the leading role in the "Gabriel Knight" trilogy and Jane Jensen took the classic point-and-click game into new territory
- If you're the type of person who likes a really interesting back-story and who enjoys a bit more sophistication than the usual mind-numbingly dull "hidden object" game, this will be a breath of fresh air
- Already completed episode 2 and waiting impatiently for the next instalment
- Fantastic classic point and click mystery game
- Great storyline, graphics and soundtrack
- A little buggy though
- Occasionally crashing
- And some movement glitches (walking in the air!)
- But would definitely recommend and am downloading the next one at the moment
- Not playable
- Please fix
- Really enjoyed the game
- Its a good mature story
- And is quite well written and acted
- Also the puzzles are decent
- And the powers you use to solve the puzzles add a cool element
- Plus you can deffinetly see touches of Jane Jensen in the game as she worked as story consultant
- I now feel more relaxed having Phoenix Online Studios the Gabriel Knight remake after playing this
- Also looking forward to playin the rest of this series on iOS
- Its not perfect tho there are some pretty odd glitches
- Like the character will frequently take to the air and hovering off the ground
- It doesnt break the game it corrects itself but still anoyying
- And at times there is a little lack of direction on what to do
- Like when using the office computer its not obvious what you should press so you end up tapping everything on the screen little things like that
- And i dont know what vik83 is talking about completing in under 30 mins
- There must be well over that in voice dialog alone never mind travelling to locations and solving puzzles
- 83 must be a point and click master mind that skips all the cut scenes and dialog interactions
- I don't understand the negative reviews some have written on here
- There's one of two bugs
- And you might have to cheat on some of the harder puzzles until you know how the game works
- But this game has been the only point and click I've bothered to finish since Broken Sword
- Buy the game, support the developers so they keep churning out more, I know I will
- I found game also to be too slow
- And had way to much talking in between doing something
- Cool
- Cool
- Very nice!!
- Now I'll try the second chapter too..
- Not even worth a one star rating
- Game, for want of another word, was completed in under thirty minutes
- An utter waste of money
- Wow this game is awesome keep up the good work
- This would be a fun game if it wasn't for all the graphics bugs (popping animations, clipping, material issues)
- Which take you out of the immersion that the story creates
- Seems like a sloppy port
- Being a fan of Kings Quest, Gabriel Knight, etc
- This has finally come to iPad, now I can play lying on the bed
- This version crashed a few times but can just relaunch and it is ok
- Very cool classic point-and-click quest!!!
- Without English, it will be difficult to play
- There are also a couple of bugs with graphics that do not affect the overall progress and enjoyment of the game!!
- Overall I recommend it
- But now hurry up with chapter 3, I want to know how it ends!!!
- Just wish we didn't have to wait so long between episodes
- Not up to Gabriel Knight but Jane Jensen's imprint is still visible
- This is a fantastic thriller game
- I can't wait to play the other episodes on the iPad
- The story line is flawless
- And the game play offers enough difficulty without being impossible
- The subtle reference to the old Sierra games is perfect
- I wish more games like these existed again; they are what I grew up with
- Thank you
- Really excellent adventure game but it slows down to a snails pace in some parts
- Additionally the motion and load times are generally very slow
- That said, it's a killer story well worth the price
- Was really getting into the game, played for about 3.5 hours already and then the game dropped out
- I reloaded - no autosave!!!
- Lost everything so would have to start from scratch
- It really is a nicely drawn, well thought out game that you get engrossed in
- Which is also why it's more disappointing that this glitch and having no autosave feature really let it down
- The developers must have rushed through the iPad version of this game
- As an iPad 3 user, I would expect more
- I can't interact with objects well because the pointer is messed up in the game
- Can't even load a saved game because you can't get the pointer to click the Load button!!!!
- This is massive flaw and makes the game unplayable
- I wish I hadn't spent the money on it and tried the lite version first
- I could live with the graphic issues, like the way certain cut scenes have big blue blocks in it obscuring entire scenes, IF the game functioned well
- To add insult to $4 injury, the game doesn't orient correctly even with the iPad's rotation lock turned off so you have to play the game upside down if you have a standup case
- Horrible game on the iPad
- Money back or fixes please!!!!
- May 23, 2013 and still no update to fix this
- Takes up more than 1GB of space
- Deleting
- Waste of money
- Hopefully future updates will fix the MANY bugs in this game
- Disappointing
- Unfortunately, this version is still full of bugs
- It is teeming with graphic errors, slowdowns and crashes
- The loading times are a disaster
- And the save function is unreliable
- Until all that is fixed: stay away!
- Very good story, good dialogues, good puzzle density
- Graphics and sound are also great
- The controls are okay, but could be better
- One star less because voice acting is only in English and German subtitles are sometimes hidden faster than you can read them
- I got the tape recorder and the tape, but cannot use the tape recorder to play the tape, getting the message, " this is not going to work with this"
- I am revising the earlier review, since deleting and re-loading the game caused the problems to stop
- It is possible that I had a bad, or interrupted download the first time, and to be fair to the developers, the game is enjoyable, and I look forward to future episodes
- The only reason to remove one star is due to some long loading times between scenes, and some interface oddities
- I cannot wait for the second episode
- This is a great game with a complex story and unique puzzle solving style
- The interface is a little buggy, but its easy to overlook
- I hope Phoenix releases the next episode for the iPad soon
- Love this game ?
- Will there be more episodes
- Sure the graphics aren't the best, but the story line keeps you playing
- The game play is fun and varied
- Thoroughly enjoyed it
- Need episode 2
- Brilliant adventure game
- Beautiful art
- Cognition concepts are nice for the genre
- Generally good dialogue
- There are a few graphical issues throughout the game, notably a blue box for a face when shooting the padlock, and when in the final boss encounter there is a blue box for a bad-guy and two grey boxes for a gun…
- Moments of lag in dialogues...
- But nothing that detracts overly from the whole game
- [Spoilers: "I can't remember the date… it was our wedding anniversary…" -- Good job there, mate.]
- Every bit as good as broken sword
- Can't wait for the next one
- This is a fantastic game
- Great story and decent puzzles that don't force you to try everything in your inventory
- Well made, exciting, puzzle density okay
- Implementation of mouse control is moderately successful - touch without a cursor would be better
- I tried playing this game twice and failed both times
- I played it on my iPad (3rd gen) and, once, I couldn't get out of my cellphone screen at the beginning, I had to force quit and the 2nd time, It skipped the phone screen so i was able to move on thru the gate at the start
- However, the sound stopped working on my iPad! :/
- I had to force quit again... I gave up on it, which is sad cause it looks good. >.<
- Really tough game for adults
- No flowers and berries, there is blood, corpses, and quite realistic FBI routines within a well-twisted plot
- And if the investigation is not going well, you can always call your father-general
- Don't forget to dig in one dead guy's stomach, there's a surprise
- The application crashes after the intro scene, impossible to play
- In short, a scam...
- Very nicely done
- Awesome interactive fiction game
- Can't wait for episode 2 to be released on iPad
- Easily the best role playing game I've played on the iPad
- The story is great, and thank god they consulted writers from the old Gabriel knight series--it shows in the storytelling
- Gameplay is a little clunky, but manageable
- I haven't played anything like this yet on the iPad--can't wait for episode 2
- In good traditions of Broken Sword series
- Minus star for numerous bugs
- I loved loved LOVED this game
- The genre is so over saturated with crappy hidden object games and to find this game feels like finding the holy grail
- I think I enjoyed it more than I did Broken Sword
- Sure some elements were a bit illogical, but you can't complain with amazing scenes, great characters, gripping story and intriguing game play
- I've a sneaking suspicion it'll be available on PC already and am very tempted to buy it on there to get the next episodes now
- The biggest issue were the frequent long black loading screens and the movements paths get a bit confused, but besides that - loved it
- More ASAP please
- Fabulous game
- Am soo excited for the next chapter
- Best app I have played in a while
- This is a great game!!
- Very challenging and different from a lot of games out there
- It's nice to play something other than an HOS game
- But... MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE GAME CONSTANTLY!!!
- After every scene you complete...SAVE!
- I lost my progress half way through the game and had to start all over again
- That's the only glitch and only problem with it
- Other than that... Absolutely loved the game and can't wait for number 2!!!
- Great job
- Why would I want to restart my game every time I save it?
- I want my $$ back!!
- I would have easily given a five star rating if game loaded a bit faster.....ie: from scene to scene,it's kinda slooow !
- On the plus side....a great game that keeps me guessing
- And although easy it's not too easy and grabbed my interest from the beginning
- I also appreciate the fact that its more adult oriented than most
- Thank you Devs,I look forward to "act two"
- Perfect point n click game for iPad
- Played it till I finished it
- Bring on Episode 2! :D
- English at the bottom for dev
- Fan of old-school point'n'clic adventure games, I salute this excellent initiative
- The scenario is engaging, the atmosphere well rendered, the characters interesting enough
- A technical update would be necessary: loading times are too long, the character lags on some animations
- Be careful the game is in English or German
- English for dev :
- Very nice idea, I.m a big fan of point'n'clic game so thanks
- But there are technical problems : the game is too slow
- Please update the game : loading times between two screens or simply the map are too long on ipad 3 retina (compared to other 3D game of appstore), animation are sometimes strange (very slow when the character turn)
- Please include an auto save
- If a call comes through or I switch apps I loose all my progress
- I'll do a better (more comprehensive) review when it's updated- thanks :)
- also please allow us to skip all talking parts (some are skip able)
- Because the demo was so good that I bought this only to find I had to play the whole demo again (maybe a "hidden" button or those who have played the demo already?)
- Love the storyline and empassioned main character (Had a blue screen instead of her face when she was shooting out the padlock)
- And ill support things from Jane in the hope she gets the reins of Gabriel Knight again :)
- I have completed the first section twice, and begun the first case, then was not given an option to save when I wanted to leave the app
- It is frustrating to have to start back at the beginning each time; how can you possibly make more progress if it is not auto-saving or giving you an option to save
- Very disappointed
- At the very beginning of this game a cellphone pops up which I can't get rid of no matter what buttons I press including the exit button
- I have a current generation ipad
- Very disappointing
- Don't waste your money
- The game started off with a bang - great graphics and movement and riveting dialogue
- From there it became similar to other games but not as good
- It is difficult to play without hints
- And there was this one scene where someone I was interrogating wanted something to eat but I couldn't offer the box of donuts I had!
- Game play needs to be improved before I will give it 5 stars
- I love games like this but found this one to be literally unplayable
- The UI is clunky and unintuitive and the gameplay is frustrating, laggy and simply abysmal
- Very disappointed
- The iPad has plenty of games that are great for a few minutes and few that are great for a few hours
- This is very definitely one of the latter
- It also has a mature and engrossing plot and managed to freak me out a little as I was playing alone and in the dark while my boyfriend is out of town
- This was well worth my time and money and I cannot wait for the next episode to make be ported to the iPad! :)
- A great police investigation game that has the flaw of good games, namely being too short
- Moving from scene to scene takes waaay too long
- Solid narrative ruined by poor optimisation and average graphics, but fans of oldschool adventures will love it anyway
- Riveting story
- Graphics and sound are amazing
- The interface could use a bit of polish
- But it is quite useable once you get used to it
- This game is a bit taxing on the hardware, which is reflected in long load times, and a bit of lag
- This does not detract much from a great gaming experience
- Good job Phoenix
- This is what the iPad has been missing
- An engaging, immersive, old school adventure game, full of mystery, suspense and a story line that keeps you on the edge of your seat
- Definitely worth the few bucks
- Jane Jensen is hand's down the best Adventure game designer there ever was
- I don't know how much influence she had on this title, but so far, so good
- We need more adult storytelling in games
- The first generation of video gamers like me are now starting to become old geezers, we needz better storeez
- This game is amazing, music is beautiful, atmosphere and story is brilliant, could not stop playing
- Excellent
- Please bring episode 2 to the ipad
- Game is great
- The only complaint is the UI was designed for mouse and the put load and delete extremely close to each other
- The UI needs to be redesigned for touch
- Other then that great game
- Finally a game that has the traditional adventure mechanism with a story that adults can enjoy
- Very enjoyable and looking forward to the next episode
- Completed on PC, will complete on tablet too
Requested features
