Tempo, the premier metronome app for iOS is now available as this free Lite version. Tempo was featured as "New and Noteworthy" and "Staff Favorite" by Apple on the main iTunes landing page. Now you can enjoy Tempo's core features before upgrading to its full suite of features. Tempo Lite's engine is written from the ground up for high accuracy and stability. It keeps going even in device lock mode, making it a useful aid for live drumming. As a special treat, we've included the Tracker Module which helps in your practices by tracking the number of bars or time played. As opposed to purchasing Tempo, upgrading Tempo Lite nets you a dark colour scheme for the flipside views (instead of light). Visit www.frozenape.com for demo videos. Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Metronome at every 3 weeks against Metronome's every 3 months. Metronome's advantage is review sentiment (84% vs 69%) and ratings volume (4.2K vs 474). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Metronome sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Metronome sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for Metronome against 4.7 for Metronome. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Metronome has 4.2K ratings behind it against 474, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 84% of Metronome's written reviews are positive against 69% of Metronome's.
Metronome ships an update every 3 months, Metronome every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
