Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Second Grade Learning Games at 16K against Mateo's 9. Second Grade Learning Games also leads on update cadence (every 3 months vs every 19 months) and review sentiment (60% vs 43%). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Second Grade Learning Games sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month and Mateo sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Mateo holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Second Grade Learning Games has 16K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Second Grade Learning Games's written reviews are positive against 43% of Mateo's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Second Grade Learning Games ships an update every 3 months, Mateo every 19 months. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
