About

Seafarer Contract Check

Features

The worst place to read a seafarer employment agreement is the manning agency desk, ten minutes before you leave for the airport, pen already in hand. This app exists for the moment before that. Scan or upload your sign-on contract as a PDF, as page photos, or as pasted text, and pick the flag the ship flies (or run the plain MLC 2006 check for any other flag). The check reads it clause by clause against the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006) and ITF standards, then returns a color-coded report. Green where the wording protects you. Yellow where it is vague. Red where a core protection is missing or signed away. WHAT THE CHECK READS * Basic wage, compared against the ILO minimum for an able seafarer: USD 690 per month from January 1, 2026 * Hours of rest: at least 10 hours in any 24-hour period and 77 hours in any 7-day period under MLC Standard A2.3 * Repatriation: the flight home is the shipowner's cost under Standard A2.5 * Medical care: sickness and injury cover under MLC Regulation 4.2 * Paid leave, overtime, notice periods, recruitment fees, and whether a collective agreement covers you Whether your document is called a seafarer employment agreement, a seaman contract, or a cruise ship crew contract: run it through the check before you sign on. The report reads the salary clauses and compares the basic wage to the ILO floor, and it flags a contract duration that quietly stretches past the point where MLC 2006 gives you the right to go home. If you sail on a POEA or DMW standard employment contract (the DMW SEC replaced the POEA contract in 2026), the full MLC 2006 baseline check applies to it the same way. 59 FLAG STATES, VERIFIED 59 flag states have their own module: administration, governing maritime labor law and complaint contacts, verified against the official registry, the ILO ratification register and the flag's own MLC circulars. The list covers the big open registries (Panama, Liberia, Marshall Islands, Malta, Bahamas, Cyprus), the European second registers (DIS, NIS, RIF, MAR, REC), the Red Ensign Group, the main Asian flags (Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand) and every flag on the Paris MoU black list. For any other flag the check runs against the full MLC 2006 baseline. Every report says at the top what it was checked against: MLC 2006 plus the flag you picked. Next to the flag you see how that register performs in port state control: Paris MoU white, grey or black list with its rank, Tokyo MoU list, and whether the ITF lists the flag as a flag of convenience. Ratings follow the current published lists (Paris MoU 2025, Tokyo MoU 2024, ITF 2025). WORKS AT SEA Your saved reports, the MLC checklist, the escalation path, flag state complaint contacts, the ILO wage table, and the crew FAQ are stored on your phone and readable without a connection. Only the check itself needs internet. * Save every report with the ship name or manning agent, and export it as a PDF when you need it as evidence or for a second opinion * The escalation ladder: from your supervisor to the master, the DPA, the flag state, Port State Control, and the ITF * Complaint contacts for the flag administrations, verified against the official sources PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your contract is transmitted encrypted, processed once for the analysis, and never stored on our servers. Photos are re-encoded on your device first, so location and camera metadata never leave your phone. Saved reports live only in an encrypted database on your device. No tracking by us, no account. The free check is funded by short ads. The report is an automated informational review of the document wording. It is not legal advice. For a dispute, contact the ITF or your union. 7SHORT1LONG, a Seafarer Identity Brand YES, WE ARE CREW.
