Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Smith Turf & Irrigation at 100% against McMaster's 68%. Smith Turf & Irrigation also leads on iOS requirement (12.2 vs 15.0). McMaster's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 5 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
McMaster holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: McMaster has 220 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 68% of McMaster's written reviews are positive against 100% of Smith Turf & Irrigation's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
McMaster ships an update every 5 weeks, Smith Turf & Irrigation every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
