Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Facemania at none against Magical Creatures's shown. Facemania also leads on ratings volume (157 vs 22) and iOS requirement (5.0 vs 13.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Facemania sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and Magical Creatures sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.2 for Facemania against 4.3 for Magical Creatures. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Facemania has 157 ratings behind it against 22, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 77% of Facemania's written reviews are positive against 70% of Magical Creatures's.
Facemania ships an update every 2 months, Magical Creatures every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
