The game is played with a 24, ranked J (of trump suit), J (same color as trump suit), A, K, Q, 10, and 9 or 32 card deck (including 7 and 8s), where the Joker (Benny) can be additionally added. The cards are distributed as follows: each player receives 5 cards, and the remaining 4 cards form the kitty. The game begins when the top card of the kitty is turned up and the bidding begins. Each player can choose whether he like the suit of the top card to be trump by responding “pick it up” or “pass”. If the dealer picks up the card, the dealer then discards the card to the kitty, face down. When a trump suit is selected, the J in the suit of the same colour becomes a member of this trump suit. Any card of the trump suit outranks any card of a non-trump suit. By naming a suit, each team intends to win the majority of the tricks. If a bid succeeds the team scores one point. If a team wins all five tricks, he makes a “march”. Failure to win three tricks is referred to as being “euchered”.
