Amemil is an application that uses augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to represent real-time rainfall information. The AI tells you when strong rain clouds are approaching, and you can check them as realistic images through the camera. * Main functions and features - Amemil has three modes: "2D" for map display, "3D" for AR display, and "Satellite Eye" for a bird's eye view of the weather from above. - Rainfall information is a composite of JMA radar data, with a resolution of 250m mesh, and is updated every 5 minutes. - Rainfall notification is a push notification with voice (Saori Onishi and Ari Ozawa) and radar video when rainfall is expected at registered points or at the current location within one hour. - In 2D mode, rainfall and lightning information is displayed in 10 shades, superimposed on the current location marker and map. - The AI learns from meteorologists' explanations and provides information on temperature and rainfall conditions in the user's vicinity, as well as forecasts for the future. - In 3D mode, rainfall information for a 10km radius is combined with the camera image as an animation of rain clouds, rain, and ripples in puddles. You can read the amount of rainfall by indicating the target direction. It can also play the sound of rain according to the intensity of the rain. - The "Satellite Eye" function allows you to view rainfall conditions across Japan, and by moving your iPhone, you can experience a realistic image as if you were looking at it from a satellite. - There is a demo mode that recreates heavy rainfall that has led to disasters in the past. - If you register as a member for 0.99 US dollars per month, you can use the rainfall forecast for the next 15 hours and GPS tracking mode. - You can post a video and image of the screen you are viewing with AR to SNS. If you post it, you can use the paid rainfall forecast and GPS tracking mode for 3 hours for free. * Support for widgets You can check the umbrella index, the rain forecast graph for the next 15 hours, and the weather radar map of the surrounding area on the home screen at any time. * Support for Siri shortcuts - Ask Siri, "What's the rain coming? and Amemil's AI will reply with the weather conditions in the area. * Support for Apple Watch - Rain radar is displayed on the map and a digital crown can be turned to see the forecast up to 60 minutes ahead. - Notifies you of approaching rain with animation. - Precipitation probability, satellite image, and precipitation forecast can be added to the watch face. * About Monthly Membership Price and duration of the monthly membership 0.99 US dollars / 1 month (counted from the date of application) / automatic monthly renewal You will be charged to your iTunes account. * Details of automatic renewal Your subscription will be automatically renewed unless you cancel the auto-renewal more than 24 hours before the end of your subscription period. The NERV Disaster Prevention App is a smartphone service that delivers earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption and emergency warnings, as well as provides weather-related disaster prevention information for flooding and landslides, optimised based on the user's current and registered locations. The app was developed to help people living in or visiting an area where damage is expected to occur, to accurately assess the situation and make quick decisions and actions. With information received directly through a leased line connected to the Japan Meteorological Agency, our proprietary technology enables the fastest information distribution in Japan. ▼ All the information you need, in one app Get a wide range of disaster prevention information, including weather and typhoon forecasts, rain radar, earthquake, tsunami and volcanic eruption alerts, emergency weather warnings and landslide information, river information, and heavy rain risk notifications. By interacting with the map on the screen, you can zoom in on your location or pan across the country and see the cloud cover, typhoon forecast areas, tsunami warning areas, or the scale and intensity of an earthquake. ① Providing users with the most appropriate disaster information The home screen displays the information you need at the time and place you need it. When there’s an earthquake, the home screen will show you the latest information. If another type of warning or alert is issued while the earthquake is active, the app will sort them depending on the type, elapsed time and urgency, so you’ll always have the most important information at your fingertips. ② Push Notifications for Important Information We send out different types of notifications depending on the device’s location, the type of information and level of urgency. If the information is not urgent, we send a silent notification as not to disturb the user. For more urgent situations where a disaster is time-sensitive, a ‘Critical Alert’ alerts the user to an imminent danger. Notifications like Earthquake Early Warnings (Alert level) and Tsunami Warnings will be forced to sound, even if the device is in Silent or Do Not Disturb modes. Note: Critical Alerts will only be sent to users in the target area of the most urgent types of disasters. Users who have registered their location but are not in the target area will instead receive a normal notification. ※ In order to receive Critical Alerts, you need to set your location permissions to “Always Allow” and have Background App Refresh turned on. If you don’t want Critical Alerts, you can disable them from Settings. ③ Barrier-Free Design We paid close attention when designing the app to ensure our information is accessible to everyone. We put a focus on accessibility, with colour schemes that are easy to distinguish for people with colour blindness, and use a font with large, clear letters so long bodies of text are easy to read. ▼ Supporters’ Club (In-App Purchase) In order to keep doing what we do, we’re looking for supporters to help us cover the development and operational costs of the app. The Supporters’ Club is a voluntary membership scheme for those who want to give back to the NERV Disaster Prevention app, by contributing to its development with a monthly fee. You can find out more information about the Supporters’ Club on our website. https://nerv.app/en/supporters.html [Privacy] Gehirn Inc. is an information security company. The security and privacy of our users is our highest priority. We take great care not to collect excessive amounts of information about our users through this application. Your exact location is never known to us; all location information is first converted to an area code used by everyone in that area (like a zip code). The server also doesn’t store past area codes, so your movements cannot be tracked. Learn more about your privacy on our website. https://nerv.app/en/support.html#privacy

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: NERV Disaster Prevention at 80% against Amemil's 43%. NERV Disaster Prevention also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (47 vs 1). Amemil's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 weeks). On price, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Amemil sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.99 per month and NERV Disaster Prevention sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Amemil holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: NERV Disaster Prevention has 47 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 43% of Amemil's written reviews are positive against 80% of NERV Disaster Prevention's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Amemil ships an update every 3 weeks, NERV Disaster Prevention every 6 weeks. Both last shipped on November 6, 2026.
