Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: AMI Play at 4.5 against X103.9's 3.0. AMI Play also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (18K vs 2). X103.9's advantage is monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (67% vs 58%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
AMI Play holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: AMI Play has 18K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 58% of AMI Play's written reviews are positive against 67% of X103.9's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
AMI Play ships an update every 2 months, X103.9 every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on November 6, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
