Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Rail Crossing Locator at 2.6 against Rescuecode's 1.7. Rail Crossing Locator also leads on ratings volume (155 vs 6). Rescuecode's advantage is review sentiment (34% vs 19%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Rail Crossing Locator holds the better App Store score, 2.6 against 1.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Rail Crossing Locator has 155 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 19% of Rail Crossing Locator's written reviews are positive against 34% of Rescuecode's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Rail Crossing Locator ships an update every 2 months, Rescuecode every 3 months. Both last shipped on October 4, 2026.
