Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Nintendo Today! at 4.3 against Blacklyte's 1.0. Nintendo Today! also leads on ratings volume (1K vs 1) and update cadence (every 9 days vs monthly). Blacklyte's advantage is monetization model (free vs ad-supported) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Nintendo Today! holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Nintendo Today! has 1K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Blacklyte ships an update monthly, Nintendo Today! every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 4, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
