Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Explore Mars with Rover at 100% against Falling Filter Challenge's 10%. Explore Mars with Rover also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Falling Filter Challenge's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Falling Filter Challenge holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Falling Filter Challenge has 1.1K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Explore Mars with Rover's written reviews are positive against 10% of Falling Filter Challenge's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
