Practice Stop helps truck drivers get ready for the English check at DOT inspections. Short lessons teach questions an officer may ask and common USA road signs. Use the app in English, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Punjabi, Arabic or Tagalog. The lessons teach English. Practice Stop is an independent learning app. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by FMCSA, DOT, CVSA or any government agency. What happens at the English proficiency test (ELP test) • At a roadside inspection or traffic stop, the officer may ask about your trip and your job in English: "Where are you coming from?", "What are you hauling?", "Can I see your logs?" • You may also be asked to explain US highway traffic signs, including electronic message signs. • Translation apps, I-Speak cards and interpreters are not allowed. You answer on your own. • Drivers who fail can be placed out of service. Since June 25, 2025, English proficiency is part of the CVSA out of service criteria. • US DOT said more than 26,000 drivers had been placed out of service for English proficiency (Aug 10, 2026, reported by FreightWaves). • On Aug 10, 2026, FMCSA proposed a rule to put this into the regulations. It is a proposal, not a final rule. Learn: truck English, step by step 14 short units made for truck drivers: • Greet the officer and show your documents • Say where you are coming from, where you are going and what you are hauling • Hours of service, trucking numbers and parts of your truck • Regulatory signs, warning signs, work zone signs and guide signs • Electronic message boards • Follow the officer's instructions • Words for the walk-around inspection • Handle problems: violations, tickets and getting help • A mock ELP interview at the end Listen, speak, and match words and pictures. Lessons and reviews unlock one after another. Signs: US traffic and road signs • Learn road signs at your own pace in the Signs tab, with message boards too • See US road signs and their meaning, and what to do, in your language • Use the sign drill as a quick traffic sign test before your next trip • No public source lists the exact signs used in the check, so learn the common highway signs you see in the USA Practice: speak, listen, fix mistakes • Review what you got wrong • Listening and speaking drills • Talk to an officer: a voice conversation with an AI officer that feels like a roadside inspection, with a score and feedback at the end Map: ELP enforcement • See ELP violations and out-of-service orders by county • Choose the last 3 months, the last 12 months or all available data • Built from federal FMCSA inspection data (MCMIS) Purchases • Included without a purchase: unit 1, 3 road signs of your choice and the ELP map for all available data • Practice Stop Pro, a one-time purchase, unlocks units 2 to 14, every road sign with sign practice, and the 12-month and 3-month map views with county details • The AI officer voice conversation uses 1 token per session • Tokens come in packs you buy only when you need them. No subscription • Sign in to get a practice stop with the AI officer Who it is for • CDL drivers in the USA who speak English as a second language • New drivers getting ready for their first DOT inspection • Owner operators and fleets who want their drivers ready before a trip • English for truck drivers who speak Spanish: inglés para camioneros y señales de tránsito, con la app en español • Practice Stop is a DOT inspection app for English and US traffic signs.
